3 important things to consider when starting therapy

  1. Change takes time - many people think that the process is a quick and simple one. Therapy is an investment of time, energy and money. It takes a long time for patterns and behaviours to form that we may want to change, and it is going to take some time to work on shifting them.

  2. It's not the same as talking to a friend - the therapeutic relationship is boundaried and the relationship between therapist and client is different to that of friendship.

  3. Confidentiality is key - what is discussed in sessions is kept private and confidential this helps to build trust in the relationship and to develop a safe environment in your work.
